You can apply online for free school meals. You'll get an immediate response and confirmation email after you've completed your application.
Suffolk County Council doesn't process free school meal applications for all schools in Suffolk. You'll need to contact these schools directly to apply:
If your child has had free school meals since 1 April 2018, they'll keep getting them until the end of the 2025/2026 school year, even if your income changes.
The Government is changing the rules and eligibility for free school meals, but not until September 2026. You can read how this might affect your child.
If you apply before September 2026, we'll use the current income rules - see 'Are you eligible?' below.
More information about the new criteria will be available before the 2026/2027 school year begins.
If your child is attending a nursery school:
Note: You will not be able to apply over the phone because you need to provide an email address, password and sign the declaration stating that you have parental responsibility.
Suffolk County Council will never ask for your personal bank details.
